9:05 + Playthrough
9:05 by Adam Cadre is a compelling, short piece of interactive fiction that takes on the Detective genre in a whole new way. In the game, you play as a man who wakes up disheveled at 9:05 AM and you have to try and figure out how to go about your day. As you play through, you start realizing that things are not exactly what they seem and YOU are not who you think you are...
The game is pretty straightforward so most players can manage without a walkthrough, however if you're the type of person who wants to know all the different outcomes (like me!) then here's one that definitely helped me out.
So, as I previously mentioned, the game begins with the player character waking up. Your clothes are messy and your first task is to simply stand up and answer the phone. Then, after an angry phone call with your boss (or - what you think is your boss), it's time for you to bathe, eat breakfast, and get the hell to work! When you're driving is where the different endings stem from. You should really play through the endings yourself to get the experience of playing through it - but ultimately, the reveal of who your character actually is comes through them.
9:05 really changes the entire genre of Detective games and what players expect from them by the purpose of unveiling the story. There are little side actions that can be easily overlooked by players in the game that reveal bits of the backstory such as looking at yourself in the bathroom mirror, looking under the bed, or looking in the car's trunk outside. In typical Adam Cadre style, he takes a story and makes you work to uncover the ending. Although, the puzzles are not too difficult and the game is a short one to get through. So if you're not someone who's into sitting through hours trying to figure out the complexity of what to do next in an interactive fiction game -- this is the game for you.
